World health day observed across Bangladesh

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman addressed the nation with a strong message to celebrate this day with proper management and concerns since he prioritised Health as one of the most important sectors of the country. With the commitment to build a healthy and safe world for our future generations, ‘World Health Day 2026’ is being celebrated in Bangladesh, like other countries of the world, on April 7, 2026. This year’s theme has been ‘Together for Health, Stand with Science’! Humans, animals and the environment – these three elements are closely related to each other.

Their safety and well-being depend on each other. Therefore, the protection of all life is the demand of the hour today. This is the concept of ‘One Health’, which gives equal emphasis to ensuring the health of humans as well as protecting the good health of the fauna and environment around them. To implement this goal, it is imperative to ensure the use of research and sustainable technology by integrating medical science, agricultural science, zoology and environmental science. The rapid advancement of science around the world has created unprecedented opportunities and possibilities in healthcare. Especially in our country, there is no alternative to using technology to ensure sustainable, quality and non-discriminatory healthcare for marginalized areas and the poor population. The innovation, use and expansion of technologies such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), artificial intelligence (AI), or machine learning (ML) should be encouraged to provide fast and accurate diagnosis and effective treatment. The current democratic government of Bangladesh believes that ‘Prevention is Better than Cure’. This elected government is committed to ensuring easy and affordable healthcare for all in the light of the existing system in a developed welfare state based on the principle of ‘Health for All’. Because, healthcare is not a privilege, it is a fundamental right of people.

The government has started working to build a humane healthcare system. To that end, preventive activities including quality medical treatment, complete maternal and child healthcare will be expanded in cities and villages. One lakh health workers or healthcare workers will be recruited across the country in stages, of which about 80 percent will be women. In addition, the government has plans to provide e-health cards for every citizen, introduce a public-private partnership (PPP) system to ensure fast and quality treatment of long-term and complex diseases, improve the quality of services in the health sector and make necessary reforms to keep medical costs affordable, introduce and gradually expand health insurance, strengthen medical education and research, and enact fair laws for service recipients and service providers. To achieve these goals, 5 percent of the GDP will be allocated to the health sector in phases. I firmly believe that if we collectively fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to us with honesty, dedication, and sincerity, we will be able to build a healthy and strong nation. On the occasion of World Health Day 2026, I extend my warmest greetings and congratulations to everyone and wish all the programs organized on this day for the all-round success.

DAB leaders, health minister & all health officials, workers have celebrated this day with extreme zeal & fervour.
