Usually after taking over power with a two-third majority after 16 years of life & death chess, it becomes extremely critical for any incoming government to stay fully in line with rules of strict engagement to scrutinize the geniuine leaders & activists of the party . It so happens that during the election time, many suddenly come closer to the government and the mainstream ones seem deprived, disengaged & less-heard. This is what unfolded during the last 16 years amidst cacophony voices & disagreements . Martyred President Ziaur Rahman initiated an inclusive society since he wanted peace and stability after 1975 . Despite that, he paid heaviest prices by losing his life in hands of people whom he could never imagine. Owing to many previous escapes, confidence grew in him & it led to his unfortunate & immature death who just started new system of governance.
Picture : Major General Fazle Elahi Akbar, who was expected to be CAS but BNP chose Moeen Uddin and ruined itself, despite all challenges, Gen Akbar led security team of Begum Zia confronting all threats & humiliations from 2009 to 2024. It needs no saying that due to an unknown reason he was removed from Security adviser post of BNP after demise of Begum Khaleda Zia who still could continue and guide BNP due to his experiences.
This is now true that BNP has to maintain warmest relations with all forces of good since Tarique Rahman has become elected Parliament member for the first time and much of legal and constitutional complications are unknown to him. At the same time, people who stayed in the hardest times when Begum Khaleda Zia was forced out from her residence, also need to be in worthy places as advisers, ministers and policy makers. Zia family underwent all kinds of repression, deprivation & furies of fascist Hasina regime & its enablers.
The evil forces of Hasina did not spare any one let alone protocol officers Major Samiul Haque & Squadron leader Wahid un nabi were tortured inhumanly and Begum Khaleda Zia did not compromise to fascists. On 15 April 2023, at around 3:15 hundreds of armed hooligans, so-called leaders of BAL attacked Khaleda zia and everyone knows what happened on that day.
BNP also failed to understand political ruptures and extreme repercussions they had to face after 2009 managed election of 1/11 led government. In the history of Bangladesh, it was three time, PM was first under attack two times, one in Dhaka and other in Cox’s Bazar. This is a matterof deep concern that BNP has been making same mistake till today and mainstream leaders have been marginalised.
Squadron leader Wahid un nabi was the first CSF to be disappeared and undergone life and death tortures by CID who was “picked up by a notorious RAB member” for 3 days and was in Jail for 4 months. Later on, he was forced to leave the country in an extremely troubling state. The most concerning fact is that BNP has been still under same circumstances and not getting enough rooms for discussion of promoting people who stayed at the worst times.
BNP has been moving well and gradually it requires big changes in its policies and inclusion process. Despite all threats and perceived ideas, it must keep its most trusted people to the most important positions of strategic decision making.
