A shocking culture of bootlicking continues to destroy every kind of beauty, competence and appropriation in parts of the Indian Subcontinent, which is cited by many as a legacy of the British rule in this region. This has been a concerning development in Bangladesh that a lot of PhD degree holders cannot show their dissertations to anyone,some do not even know their thesis. We have noticed that most of these have been widely given to the Secretariat, Armed forces and other government officers who needed immediate promotion and other facilities. Some of the dissertations also needed extreme scrutiny; however, they passed all of it without any due procedures. PhDs may be awarded as honorary means to get the attention of the common people. Across the political arena, this is absolutely a clear sign of moral degradation and hypocrisy as this doctoral title is misused to misguide the common people. Unfortunately, in Bangladesh, during the 16 years of fascist regime, more than 100 fake PhDs have been awarded to many, including Inspector General of Police Benezir Ahmed, former Army chief Gen Aziz Ahmed and Gen Shafi Uddin all of whom have been known fake Phd holders. Due to their countless beneficiaries and spheres of influence, none could address this syndrome in public. Benazir was a student of the English department, but he did Phd from the Finance department without the required expertise. His Thesis title itself was wrong, and it exposed the sheer hypocrisy of the thesis supervisor Shibli Rubayet Islam, currently in Jail. It is said that just to be the chairman of BSEC, he provided a fake doctorate to this man.
Even the name of the UN was written inappropriately, and it awarded a PhD to the Chief of Police of Bangladesh. Former Army Aziz Ahmed also got a PhD on “Border Management Challenges of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB): Issues in Transnational Threat” by Najmul Ahsan Kalimuallah from the BUP, and the supervisor is now in Jail, and the PhD is now on the run. The same goes with General Shafi uddin, who has a PhD on “China’s Strategic Interests in South Asia: Implications for Bangladesh” from the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) in August 2021 for his research on the topic which is found in no repository of any institute. This is how a culture of bootleeking and free fake PhD thesis awards existed all across the academia. Jahangirnagar University and an unknown online university named ” East cost university” , and some Fake Malaysian and Australian universities have been awarding PhDs nomially in excahage of money . It is also true that a number of PhDs in JU have been highly appreciated , however, during the Fascist Hasina regime, the UGC failed the higher studies at the worst. Hope , this UGC will ease conditions of PhD and make the theses repository and presentations compulsory along with rigrous reserach works. The authority may conccentrate on reserach calibre of the candidates not on the Secondary and higher secondary results which is not a restriction anywhere in the world. But one must have basic reserach works and expertise on the given fields with at least basic understanding and reserach fervour which will definitely bring the best minds to the academia.
